The Vintech X73i (Neve 1073) Replica is compared side-by-side an original pair of Vintage Neve 1073’s in a scientific mic preamp shootout at Sound Pure recording studios. For the shootout, The Sound Pure Steinway Concert grand piano was recorded using a matched pair of Peluso P12 Tube microphones (Vintage Clones of the AKG C12 microphone) spaced across the piano’s strings. Each microphones’ output was split, one to the NEve and one to the Vintech X73i. Volume output at identical levels was tested by verifying phase cancellation between the two signals when summed together (with one preamp set to phase reverse). The Vintage clone Vintech X73i blew the minds of the engineers at Sound Pure studios, as the differences between the Vintech and the Neve were imperceptible.
